TPS granted for 18 months with work authority for Haitians

January 15, 2010 - Haitians in the United States are eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) if they entered as of January 12, 2010 and have not been convicted of a felony or two or more misdemeanors and are not inadmissible under security provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 for genocide, terrorism grounds. Applicants must prove physical presence in the US since January 12, 2010 and must prove Haitian nationality or that Haiti was their last place of residence.

The registration period will last for 18 months and the application for the status must be made within 180 days of the publication of the official start date of the program in the Federal Register.
